Charlotte Bach Festival: Monteverdi Vespers of 1610

In 1601, Claudio Monteverdi assumed musical leadership of the ducal chapel in Mantua. With a Venetian publisher and an ever-expanding portfolio of compositions and successes, in 1610 Monteverdi traveled to Rome and gained permission to dedicate his new volume of Vespers music to Pope Paul V.

With a Venetian publisher and an ever-expanding portfolio of compositions and successes, Monteverdi traveled to Rome in 1610, and successfully gained permission to dedicate his new volume of Vespers music to Pope Paul V.
